Technical Buyer/Manufacturing Controller
This was an electronics development and manufacturing company. In the framework of the ISO9001 accredited company, I learned the value of clear interdepartmental communication and co-operation to support each department to reach the strategic goals of the company.
As Technical Buyer I serve the research and development programs, and in-house manufacturing of the company by sourcing and procuring packaging, enclosures, discrete electronic components, subcontractors, and capital equipment. I maintain and improve purchasing procedures and processes through a philosophy of Total Quality Management by focusing on:
* Supply risk mitigation, introduce alternative manufacturers
* Cost Reductions using:
o Negotiations with Total Cost of Ownership in mind
o Order consolidation increasing buying ‘muscle’ (also driving the number of purchase orders down – reduction in processing costs)
o Accrue component projections combined with call-off orders
o Revise the packaging strategy (reduce the cost of outbound shipping)
o Alternative components (mitigate component obsolescence and reduce cost)
* Cash Flow Improvement: Analyse (usage, unit cost, and MOQ)
* Management of:
o JIT sourcing: increase planning and follow-ups to improve on-time delivery
o Outsourcing of manufacturing (Negotiations to Finished Product)
o Junior buyer and store hand
o Presentation of the final buying strategy to senior management
o Correct and timely payments of Purchase Orders by the accounting department
o Administration Optimisation: reduce the fill out time of RFQs, RFOs, IROs, and cost models from
components to fully assembled products
Inventory Management:
o Component / Finished Goods (receive, storage, dispatch, and stock take)
o Initiate “Manufacturing Cross-Docking” to reduce stock handling time
o Reduce surplus components
As Manufacturing Controller I strive to supply internal technicians and external contractors with the relevant data and material resources necessary to achieve the desired outcomes. initiate changes that enable sound strategic decisions:
• Optimisation of the Excel-based MRP system to reflect the manufacturing data pack, full product bill of materials (BOM) and component cost and lead time information (Drastically reducing the time to calculate strategic costing information)
Spearheaded the strategic decision to recall questionable released products:
o Collaborate closely with lead engineers to obtain a solution
o Design a manufacturable configuration of the suggested solution
o Initiate the systematic recall/replacement process through Marketing and Sales
